We arrived at school at 7.50 and left at 8.15. We gave all our passports and EzHic cards to the teachers and we left on the bus to go to Liverpool airport. The journey was quick because we were all excited to be leaving on the Exchange. When we got to the airport, we left our bags, and passed through security. And then, we had a bit of tine to go shopping, or buy something to eat on the plane. We boarded the plane at 12.15 and the flight was pretty uneventful, except there was bad turbulence as we went over London. We arrived in Spain at 4.45 and got to the bus station in La Vall at 9.30. We were all really excited, but a little nervous to meet our partners. We went home with our Spanish partners for our first evening in Spain!

Today, we went to a Biology class for Yr 11. It was very different to classes un the UK. The class was a lot smaller and we called the teacher by their first name, and obviously, it was in another language. As we are in Valencia, classes are often given in Valencian, but as we wouldn't understand it, the teacher gave the class in Castellan so we would understand it. They were learning about reproduction, it was really interesting, as the year ten's said they studied this topic in year 8, rather than in year 11. As I did my GCSE's in Mallorca, I remembered this topic, as I studied it only a year ago, and it is exactly as I remember.

Oranges are brought into the factory and are about to be washed

After washing, the oranges begin
to be sorted. Here, all the
leaves have been taken off.

Today at 8, we went to school where I studied French. However it was quite confusing, as our teacher spoke to us in both French and Spanish, and then played us a song in French, sung by a Portuguese woman! How confusing! Afterwards, we went to a beautiful beach in Xixles (or Chilches in Castellan) where we took lots of photos, it was fab, and very relaxing. Then, we went to an orange factory, which was really interesting. Afterwards, each person was given a bag of Oranges. How generous! (at Christmas, make sure you look out for Oranges from the factory we went around-look on the label for San Lucar or La Vall d'Uixó in Sainsburys. Last year, they also sold boxes in Booths.) Then, we returned home and spent the afternoon with our partners, it was a really good day.

Our guide was lovely, she spoke slowly and
clearly so that we could understand her.
After a first selection, the oranges are treated and waxed.
The selection process continues...

The 'Beauty Parlour'. Where UV lights
are used to identify imperfections
under the skin of the orange

Oranges are then graded.
Each gap is of a different size,
allowing oranges to drop through the gaps.

The different sized oranges are
then transported to various 'packing points'

Here you see empty crates being automatically brought to the assembly line, where the oranges are packed into boxes to be sold in the supermarkets!

The smallest oranges, Clemenules,
are packed into bags like this one,
destined for a supermarket shelf in Germany!

On Monday, we went to Peñiscola, a small town on the coast. We went to a famous old castile that was really beautiful. It was surrounded by the sea so it had some beautiful views. I enjoyed it because there was loads to see and I like looking at historic buildings.

Today, the English girls went to school, and in groups, we went to observe some different classes- Biology, French, Spanish Literature and Sound-a vocational course. ( the school offers many vocational courses, such as this, and mechanics.)  I went to French, there were only 2 students in the class! (these were students that have decided not to study English as a foreign language, and instead study French.)in the class, we read a poem by Paul Eloard, called Liberté in French and we talked with the French students about ourselves. It was really difficult to speak in French when we were in Spain, and especially difficult for some of us who haven't studied French since Year 7! At the end of the lesson, we listen to some Enrique Iglesias songs and a few others. The class was really interesting as it was completely different to classes in England.

Today, we went to Morella, to visit an enormous cathedral. We bought a hot drink in a café, and some people bought souvenirs in the shops. Afterwards, we visited a historic castle and took lots of photos because it was really beautiful. In Morella it was freezing, as we were so high up in the mountains.

Afterwards, we went to Peñiscola, a beautiful town, and we took lots of photos, (all the photos here are of Peñiscola). It was a lovely town, and the views were stunning.
